Ever since he became the full-time all-format captain of India, Rohit Sharma has been toppling records consistently. After his successful captaincy debut in Tests, Rohit has achieved another record. Team India’s current skipper Rohit Sharma has made his entry to the list of Indian captains to win their first two Tests.
Rohit Sharma off to a flier in his captaincy career
After Virat Kohli quit as the captain of the Test Team, there were concerns about his successor. While in the shorter formats, it was okay to appoint Rohit as Virat’s replacement, a few felt that Rohit’s injury record and age might not work in his favour for the role of the Test captaincy. However, BCCI went ahead with the appointment of Rohit Sharma as the Test skipper, as well.
The first assignment for Rohit was the two-match series against Sri Lanka. In both the games, India was in top form and won the matches comfortably. Rohit, on his part, also did well with the captaincy. The Mumbai cricketer has been in superb form because after he became the full-time all-format captain of India, he has not lost a single game so far.
Indian captains to win their first two Tests
Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma has joined the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, MS Dhoni and Ajinkya Rahane in the list of Indian captains to claim victories in their first two Tests. For any skipper, a good start is very necessary. That usually sets the tone for the rest of the player’s captaincy career.
In Rohit’s case, it was even more necessary because he had taken up the responsibility under uncertain circumstances. For the player, the tougher assignments will arrive in the next few months. While there is a one-off Test in England, there will also be tournaments against Australia and Bangladesh. This will complete the current World Test Championship Cycle for Team India.
