“Rohit Sharma can’t keep playing pull shots and getting out,” Sunil Gavaskar wants Rohit to introspect

Rohit Sharma has been dismissed playing pull shots quite a few times recently

The Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar is not convinced that Rohit Sharma should continue playing the pull shots even if that shot is resulting in his dismissals. Rohit is one of the best players of the pull shot in the world at the moment, but his strength is now converted into weakness by some of the bowlers around the world.

The short ball ploy is used against Rohit Sharma with the full knowledge that he is actually a good player of pull shot and he is going to hit a few deliveries into the stands, but the opposition is willing to give those boundaries because they know if Rohit continues to take the aerial route, he will give a catching opportunity somewhere down the line.

Sunil Gavaskar reckons Rohit will have to think about the percentages now and will have to ask himself if the pull shot is actually doing him any good or it’s damaging his chances of playing a long innings. If he thinks percentages are still in his favor, he can keep playing it, but if he doesn’t think percentages are favoring him, he should curb that shot for a little while before he gets set at the crease.

Sunil Gavaskar thinks bowlers are deliberately bowling short to Rohit Sharma now

Gavaskar, who is one of the very few batsmen to have crossed the 10000 run mark in test cricket, was analysing the first India Vs Sri Lanka test match on Star Sports. He spent quite sometime talking about Rohit’s dismissal and insisted that it was a deliberate ploy by Sri Lanka.

According to Gavaskar, Sri Lanka had no problems conceding a few boundaries with that ploy if it eventually induced a false shot off Rohit and that’s what exactly happened. After hitting a couple of boundaries against Lahiru Kumara, Rohit tried to go for a six-over-long leg and was caught by a fielder perfectly stationed there.

I write a bit on cricket and I am more interested in technical and tactical side of the game, rather than bravado.
