Rey Mysterio has always been one of the finest wrestlers irrespective of his stature and the world will definitely remember the moment when he went toe-to-toe against one of the gigantic wrestlers of the world, Big Show.
In a recent interview with Chris Van Vliet, Rey Mysterio reminisced the moment where Big Show swung the star strapped to the stretcher against the ring post, making it look like a baseball bat. However, things didn’t exactly go as planned which led to Mysterio heading to the hospital while Big Show rushed out to see if he is okay or not.
The incident unfurled when Big Show drubbed Rey Mysterio in a clash at the WWE Backlash PPV in 2003 making good use of his massive chokeslam. When Rey was being strapped to the stretcher to be carried out in order to be vetted medically (kayfabe), Show lifted him up again and smashed him against the ring post.
Here is what Rey Mysterio had to say about Big Show and his concern
Mysterio first talked about having a chat with the producer whether this will be possible or not. The initial idea was that Big Show will be lifting the stretcher where Mysterio was strapped and bang him against the ring post and then eventually hold on to it. Now despite Rey’s short stature, he has got decent mass and by the time the stretcher smashed against the post, Show couldn’t hold up anymore and Mysterio fell face first against the floor with his hands strapped next to his side.
Revealing the kind of remorse that Big Show had and he would do anything to ensure that he was right, Rey said, “I remember Big Show going to the hospital because they took me straight there. Big Show was outside the room I was in and he wanted to come in the room and check on me. He was tearing up, he said ‘Rey, I’m sorry are you ok?’ The nurse left and obviously back then I had a bit of an issue with painkillers, so it was just us and I said ‘OK Big Show, just try and get something for my pain.’”
This just proves that no matter what we see on screen, wrestlers share an unparallelled bond off the screens and this is what makes the world of pro-wrestling beautiful.
