Today is the last day of the league phase of IPL 2023 and while both the games scheduled today hold a great deal of importance, the second game which is RCB Vs GT has rain threat looming over it because of the weather forecast of Bangalore today.
So far three out of the ten teams have already qualified to the playoffs of IPL 2023. Gujarat Titans had qualified earlier in the week itself and then Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) qualified yesterday by beating Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders respectively.
Now the way things stand, both Mumbai Indians (MI) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) can’t qualify together to the playoffs as only one spot is left in top 4. Both of them need to win in order to qualify.
As the Net Run Rate (NRR) stands, Mumbai Indians are not in a great position. If they lose against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) today, they will be out of the tournament, because their NRR is so low that they will be placed below RCB and Rajasthan Royals in the points table even if both those teams have same no. of points as Mumbai.
Mumbai Indians might actually get eliminated from IPL 2023 even if they win against SRH, because RCB can also win against GT and get to 16 points, which will take them to the playoffs because of their higher NRR.
If MI wins against SRH and RCB vs GT game gets washed out, MI will qualify
The ideal scenarios for Mumbai Indians are either they win against SRH and RCB loses against GT or the RCB vs GT game gets washed out, so that RCB gets stuck to 15 points only and Mumbai with 16 points can qualify.
As far as the weather forecast of Bangalore is concerned, it’s clear for most parts of the day, but it’s around 5 pm that the showers are predicted with thunderstorm. And it’s not one spell of shower that is predicted at 5 pm.
Showers are predicted at 7 pm and 9 pm IST as well. However, one good thing about the Chinnaswamy stadium is that it has got one of the best drainage systems in the country and if the rain leaves any room for the game to take place, the game (even if shortened) will take place because of the drainage system at the stadium.
