The list of retained players before IPL 2025 Mega Auctions is now out. It was announced today. Here, we rate all the 10 IPL teams based on retentions before IPL 2025 Mega Auctions.
Chennai Super Kings – 6/10
CSK has got all their top players in the mix. However, they have used retention slots for four capped cricketers. This has reduced the budget for the auctions.
Delhi Capitals – 4/10
Firstly, DC must have convinced Rishabh Pant harder. The team will be weak without him. Also, retaining Kuldeep Yadav for a fee of more than INR 10 Crores is a big risk.
Gujarat Titans – 7/10
GT have convinced the likes of Rahul Tewatia for a fee well less than his previous salary. Also, the retention of Rashid Khan is a big relief for the franchise.
Kolkata Knight Riders – 5/10
KKR have retained two ageing superstars Narine and Russell. Also, not retaining Shreyas Iyer will not look good on the franchise.
Rajasthan Royals – 6/10
Reducing the purse by INR 32 Crores for Dhruv Jurel and Shimron Hetmyer is a big risk. If that risk comes off, RR would be happy in the next cycle.
Mumbai Indians – 8/10
The challenge is now to keep all these players happy. But in the first place, MI has done an excellent job by getting the best core in the league.
Punjab Kings – 7/10
When it comes to retentions before IPL 2025 Mega Auctions, Punjab Kings had a direct approach. They wanted to save a lot of money. They also did not have players’ worth of retention for that value. Their main focus will be the auctions.
Sunrisers Hyderabad – 7/10
While the core is great, SRH does not have a lot of money left. They need to get five more good Indian players, which could be hard with their limited budget.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru – 5/10
RCB could have easily retained Mohammed Siraj by reducing the amount for Virat Kohli. This would have given them more confidence heading into the auctions.
Lucknow Super Giants – 6/10
LSG might have wanted to convince KL Rahul as that would have brought balance. They bet big on Mayank Yadav and Ravi Bishnoi, who are yet to be established in the Indian Team. Also, it needs to be seen if Nicholas Pooran can maintain his consistency.
