IPL 2022 Auction is in the history books now. The 10 teams signed a total of 204 players over the last two days. Ishan Kishan, Deepak Chahar and Shreyas Iyer unsurprisingly emerged as the top three most expensive signings. Some big names like Suresh Raina and Steve Smith failed to earn a contract, while some lesser-known stars like Yash Dayal and Anuj Rawat earned big.
Now that the mega auction has culminated, in this listicle now, we will rank the 10 teams based on their performance over the last two days.
10. Sunrisers Hyderabad had a decent IPL Auction 2022
Sunrisers Hyderabad did a decent job at the mega auction by strengthening their bowling attack. However, their batting department seems weaker with the likes of Abhishek Sharma, Rahul Tripathi, Kane Williamson, Aiden Markram, Nicholas Pooran, Abdul Samad and Washington Sundar likely to be the Top 7.
9. Gujarat Titans
Gujarat Titans hit a home run with their pre-auction picks. However, their picks at the mega auction were a little strange. They did not run so much behind the marquee players, but ended up spending 19 crore for Lockie Ferguson and Rahul Tewatia. A lot will depend on Hardik Pandya and Rashid Khan in IPL 2022.
8. Royal Challengers Bangalore surprised at IPL Auction 2022
Royal Challengers Bangalore have formed a strong squad, but they could have formed an even stronger one. The decision to bid INR 10.75 crore each for Harshal Patel and Wanindu Hasaranga raised many eyebrows.
7. Kolkata Knight Riders
Kolkata Knight Riders did an excellent job by signing Shreyas Iyer. Their bowling attack is fantastic, but a lot will rely on the performance of the top-order batters.
6. Rajasthan Royals
Rajasthan Royals have assembled one of the best squads in their IPL history. However, they could have opted for better all-rounders and a more experienced opening option.
5. Mumbai Indians
Mumbai Indians started slow and did not sign too many players on Day 1. They lost some of their biggest match-winners, but by signing Jofra Archer, Tim David, Daniel Sams and Fabian Allen, they have balanced their squad.
4. Chennai Super Kings
Like MI, CSK started slow and invested a lot on one of their released players. CSK have a lot of depth in their batting department, as always. Also, they have a lot of options in the bowling department. Perhaps, they could have also considered signing Suresh Raina, but the team management had other plans.
3. Punjab Kings were impressive at IPL Auction 2022
Punjab Kings have formed a squad full of game-changers. They have specialist batters, bowlers and all-rounders who have a lot of T20 experience. Punjab’s success will depend on the captaincy factor now because individually, everyone is skilled enough to win matches consistently.
2. Delhi Capitals had brilliant strategies at IPL Auction 2022
Delhi Capitals covered all bases at the IPL 2022 Auction. Just the only one thing that could hurt them is Anrich Nortje’s fitness. Last year, they had Kagiso Rabada, but this year, Rabada is with PBKS. If Nortje plays the full season, DC will be unstoppable.
1. Lucknow Super Giants stole the show at IPL Auction 2022
It was tough to believe that the Lucknow Super Giants were making their IPL Auction debut. Gautam Gambhir, Sanjeev Goenka and Andy Flower were exceptional on both days. They have a plethora of options in all three departments. They start as the early favorites to win IPL 2022.
