Ranking IPL 2023 Captains based on the past performances

Captaincy is an important factor if a franchise to win a trophy. Therefore, a careful decision has to be taken in this regard. In the past, we have seen many teams replace captains midway through a season. On that note, here, we rank IPL 2023 Captains based on past performances.

10) Shikhar Dhawan – Punjab Kings

The Delhi cricketer has led 11 games, so far, in the IPL. He has only won four games and when he was at Sunrisers Hyderabad, he was removed from the role. Hence, it will be interesting to see how he turns up as a skipper at PBKS.

9) KL Rahul – Lucknow Super Giants

KL Rahul has a win percentage of 40% but there have been few instances where he has lost control of the game with some debatable tactics. For LSG to do well, KL Rahul has to improve and hence, he slots in at No.9.

8) Faf du Plessis – Royal Challengers Bangalore

The experienced Faf had a good season in his debut campaign as a skipper. However, he failed to show any extra-ordinary captaincy skills with respect affecting the proceedings on the field. This will, yet again, be watched in IPL 2023.

7) Aiden Markram – Sunrisers Hyderabad

Aiden Markram is one of the newest captains in IPL 2023. It is mainly due to his title-winning effort in SA20 that Markram has got this job. He must do well or he could be replaced if the results are bad.

6) Sanju Samson – Rajasthan Royals

Sanju Samson has a win percentage of less than 40% but he showed good skills in his utilization of bowlers in IPL 2023. Also, despite the lack of balance in the bowling department, with good bowling changes, he managed to dish out a few good performances. Therefore, he is at this spot.

5) Shreyas Iyer – Kolkata Knight Riders

KKR might have a new skipper but since there is no announcement, Iyer is still considered as the captain of the franchise. Iyer did well at Delhi Capitals and led the squad to a couple of playoffs. At KKR, the challenge was hard but the fans will hope that he does well.

4) Hardik Pandya – Gujarat Titans

Hardik Pandya‘s calmness and the habit of keeping things simple impressed many in IPL 2022. It also won a trophy for the franchise. He is also the vice-captain of the white-ball team and possibly, the future skipper.

3) David Warner – Delhi Capitals

In Rishabh Pant’s absence, Warner will lead Delhi in IPL 2023. He has a solid captaincy track-record and therefore, he is at No.3. DC will hope that Warner will bring out his captaincy experience with SRH to help the team win a trophy.

2) Rohit Sharma – Mumbai Indians

Having won five trophies, obviously, Rohit Sharma finds a spot in the cream layer of this table. That said, he has not been great in the last two seasons. IPL 2023 will further be a challenge because he will be without the services of Jasprit Bumrah and an experienced spinner.

1) MS Dhoni – Chennai Super Kings

When it comes to IPL 2023 captains, MS Dhoni stands at the top of the list. Although Rohit Sharma has won more trophies, when it comes to changing games purely due to captaincy, Dhoni is the best that IPL has seen. The Ranchi man has also produced terrific comebacks, leading his team all the way to the trophy.
