Ashwin then slotted Rajat Patidar at No.3. The batter was in tremendous form last year and scored centuries as well. Therefore he will continue to bat at 3 as per the off-spinner. Glenn Maxwell if fit has been picked by the veteran spinner at No.4 for the RCB.

What was interesting is that Ashwin picked Shahbaz Ahmed ahead of Dinesh Karthik in the batting order. Mahipal Lomror was also named by the off-spinner in the team at No.7 before naming Wanindu Hasaranga as a specialist all-rounder at No. 8.

Ashwin picked three pacers in Mohammed Siraj, Josh Hazlewood and Akash Deep. He surprised many by not naming Harshal Patel in the team. The pacer has been doing well for the side since the last two years.
