Prithvi Shaw failed in Yo-Yo Test but will play in IPL 2022 for Delhi Capitals

Prithvi Shaw is one cricketer who has been unable to fully make use of his potential so far. It seems that fitness issues have been troubling him and as per recent reports, Prithvi Shaw failed in Yo-Yo Test. However, he will still take part in IPL 2022 for Delhi Capitals.

Prithvi Shaw failed in Yo-Yo Test

BCCI recently conducted a camp at NCA in Bengaluru to assess the fitness of cricketers before IPL 2022. Amongst the many players who were called, Prithvi Shaw was also one of them. However, according to a BCCI source, Prithvi Shaw has failed in the fitness parameter test of BCCI. While the target was set to be 16.5, it is reported that the Mumbai opener could score only 15.

The source said, “These are just fitness updates. Obviously, it doesn’t stop Prithvi from playing for Delhi Capitals in IPL. It’s just a fitness parameter and not the be-all and end-all.”

Prithvi Shaw is actually returning from the Ranji Trophy, the first phase of which was completed recently. Keeping this in context, the source further added, “Look, he has played three Ranji matches back-to-back. Once you play three first-class games on the bounce, the fatigue can also affect your Yo-Yo score.”

Delhi Capitals could have a few issues at the start

However, despite the failure, Prithvi Shaw will play for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2022. He was retained before the auctions and will now hold an important spot in the playing XI. Prithvi will open alongside David Warner in the upcoming campaign.

Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals are likely to have a few issues at the start of IPL 2022. Important overseas players such as David Warner and Mitchell Marsh will miss a few games while South African pacer Anrich Nortje is having problems with his injury. Rovman Powell is also set to arrive late and hence, it will be a depleted squad for DC at the start. It needs to be seen how they would tackle it.
