While the Indian players and the Indian coaching staff are trying to figure out how they will tackle Shaheen Afridi in their first game of the T20 World Cup 2022 against Pakistan, the legendary Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar has also offered his advice as to how the Indian batsmen can possibly try to play Shaheen.
Sachin Tendulkar was recently talking to Press Trust of India (PTI) where he said that Shaheen is someone who can move the ball in the air and can move the ball off the pitch too. So the best way to tackle him is to try and play straight and play through mid-on and mid-off rather than going across the line early on.
Sachin also shed light on an important factor related to batting against the swing bowlers who bowl at pace. The master blaster, who faced many quick swing bowlers during his illustrious career, said that all batsmen always have a trigger movement while batting, but that trigger movement must not be exaggerated and must not make the batsman commit either to the front or to the back foot.
Once you are committed on the front foot or back foot, you can’t reverse it: Sachin Tendulkar
According to Sachin Tendulkar, whatever the batsman’s trigger movement is, it should be controlled and once a batsman controls his trigger movement, he can make a late decision whether he has to play the ball off the front foot or the back foot, but that can’t happen if the batsman is already committed on the front foot or the back foot.
Melbourne: Shaheen Shah Afridi is one of the world’s premier white ball bowlers and the Indian batters need to try and play him “straight” even if they are attacking the talented Pakistani left-arm pacer, said legendary Sachin Tendulkar. Sachin explained further that once the commitment is made on the front foot or the back foot very early, the batsman can’t switch it later and he then has to play from a position he has already committed, regardless of the length of the ball and that can be dangerous.
