Ruturaj Gaikwad yet again stole the limelight in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy 2022. The opening batter after scoring unbeaten 220 runs in the quarter-final against Uttar Pradesh continued his fine form and smashed another century but this time in the semi-final against Assam.

The Maharashtra skipper scored 168 runs in 126 balls and helped his side post a big total of 350 runs on the board. He batted with a strike rate of 133.33 and scored 18 fours and 6 sixes in his innings.

Asked to bat first, Maharashtra lost wickets in quick succession and were tumbling at 95/2.  But skipper Gaikwad looked unfazed by what was happening at the other end. He looked settled and slowly carved his way into the century. He scored 205 runs in partnership with Ankit Bawne (110) and made Assam bowlers look clueless.

Notably, Gaikwad has been in staggering form in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. This was his 7th ton in the last 9 innings, which also includes one double hundred as well. His consistent performance means continuously knocking on the doors of selectors and giving them a headaches.
