3 Indians who might retire from ODIs immediately if 2025 Champions Trophy is played in T20 format

As per reports, Star Sports has requested ICC that the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy be played in the T20 format. If that happens, a lot of changes could happen with all the teams. A few veterans would have been waiting to finish their ODI careers in 2025 but could now be forced to do it after the 2023 ODI World Cup. Here, we take a look at three Indians who might retire from ODIs immediately if the 2025 Champions Trophy is played in the T20 format.

1) Rohit Sharma

Seeing his current form, Rohit Sharma would be contemplating extending his ODI career until the Champions Trophy. It would also have been a good end for his ODI career.

However, with him unlikely to get a spot in the T20 side, Rohit might be forced to quit his ODI career if the Champions Trophy becomes a T20 tournament. Nevertheless, there is still time for the decision. It is likely to be announced only next year.

2) R Ashwin

R Ashwin is one of the Indians who might retire from ODIs immediately if the 2025 Champions Trophy is played in the T20 format. Ashwin came into the World Cup squad at the last moment. After the first game, he is yet to get a go.

Ashwin might focus on his Test career and might altogether stay away from the white-ball formats. Indian management also has to have a role in this decision by Ashwin. Hence, the legend is also a part of this list.

3) Ravindra Jadeja

Ravindra Jadeja will surely not play in the 2027 ODI World Cup. In ODIs, his next big assignment would have been the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.

However, if that event is turned into a T20 event, there is no point for Jaddu to continue his ODI career. He could focus on the other formats. Someone like Axar Patel is anyway readily available to take his place.
