IPL 2023 mini auction: 2 players who can be the surprise retentions of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)

Every IPL franchise has to submit the list of the players they are retaining ahead of IPL 2023 mini auction

IPL 2023 mini-auction will take place in December this year and before that, every IPL franchise has to submit the names of the players whom they are releasing and retaining and their purses will be adjusted accordingly. While some of the retentions will be straightforward for all franchises, there will definitely be some surprise retentions by the franchises too.

Here are the 2 players who can be the surprise retentions of Sunrisers Hyderabad ahead of the IPL 2023 mini auction –

Shashank Singh

Shashank Singh was a relatively unknown name before the last IPL despite being involved in India’s domestic cricket for a long time and he is still not a very famous name, but mid-way through the last IPL, he was brought into the playing XI of Sunrisers Hyderabad to replace Abdul Samad whom SRH had retained ahead of the mega auction itself.

And in a couple of games that Shashank Singh played, he showed that he has the ability to hit the ball long and clean. The right-hander had taken Lockie Ferguson apart in one of the games of IPL 2022. Shashank is someone SRH can think of retaining before the IPL 2023 mini-auction.

Priyam Garg

Priyam Garg, one of India’s former U19 captains and a very promising young player, was not one of the first-choice picks for SRH when the last IPL started, but when the team got out of the playoffs race very early in the league, Garg got a few chances to bat at no. 3 and although he couldn’t score a half-century, he showed he has got the ability to bat at no. 3 for SRH in the longer run.

Since then, Garg has performed well in India’s domestic cricket as well and even though he was not a first-choice pick for SRH during the last IPL, he can be one of the surprise retentions of the franchise.

I write a bit on cricket and I am more interested in technical and tactical side of the game, rather than bravado.
