However, led by Kapil Dev, the team put on stunning performances and clinched the title by defeating West Indies in the final.
The journey of Kapil Dev’s men is something that not many of this generation has witnessed. Considering the fanaticism of cricket in India, that triumph had to be documented on the big screen. Bollywood has seen its share of successful sports movies, and 83 is yet another addition to it. Directed by Kabir Khan, 83 sees Ranveer Singh essay Kapil Dev‘s role as the captain of Team India. As soon as it made its way to the theatres, the film has opened to excellent reviews. Many are grateful for having got the opportunity to relive the famous moment again.
83 makes a decent start at the box-office
With it being a Christmas weekend, 83 was expected to do well at the box office. Add to this, the star attraction of Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone along with a sports backdrop added to the prospects of the film.
Within the first three days itself, the film has minted a total of INR 47 Crores. Although many feel that the number is not great for a film by Ranveer Singh, due to the COVID situation around, the collection does seem acceptable.

Interestingly, on December 31st, there will be another movie about cricket at the theatres. Shahid Kapoor’s Jersey will release this Friday.
