IPL Mega Auction 2022: One Player From Each Team Who Might Be Unluckily Released Due To Rules

IPL Mega Auction 2022 will happen in a few months. The excitement for the IPL Mega Auction 2022 is at the next level because two new teams have joined the Indian Premier League before the 15th edition of the tournament. Ahmedabad and Lucknow are the bases of the two new franchises. Both cities will make their new debut in 2022.

According to reports, the eight existing franchises can retain a maximum of four players. It could be either a combination of 2 Indian + 2 Overseas or 3 Indian + 1 Overseas. There will be no RTM card at the IPL Mega Auction 2022. Also, the salary cap of the retained players has been released. Hence, the franchises will have to make some big decisions soon. Like every mega auction, it is possible that some big names might be unluckily released. Here’s a list of one player from each existing IPL franchise who might be unluckily released because of the retention rules.

1. Chennai Super Kings player who might be unluckily released before IPL Mega Auction 2022 – Suresh Raina

Suresh Raina has been a part of the Chennai Super Kings squad since 2008. He has been a part of the CSK team in all four seasons where they have won the IPL trophy. Unfortunately, it seems Raina might return to the auction pool because of the mega auction rules. Reports have already emerged claiming that CSK are planning to retain Ruturaj Gaikwad, MS Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja and DJ Bravo/Faf du Plessis.

2. Delhi Capitals – Shreyas Iyer

Indian batter Shreyas Iyer can walk into the playing XI of any T20 team in the world. He has been a part of the Delhi-based franchise since his debut. However, it seems his association with Delhi might end soon. The reason behind it is Iyer reportedly wants a leadership role. But DC wish to stick with Rishabh Pant as the captain. Hence, Iyer could return to the auction.

3. Kolkata Knight Riders – Rahul Tripathi

If Kolkata Knight Riders decide to retain three Indian players, then the most likely names are Shubman Gill, Venkatesh Iyer and Varun Chakravarthy. They might let go of Rahul Tripathi, a player who played a huge role in their IPL 2021 success. Tripathi scored 397 runs in 17 matches last season for KKR, but he might lose his contract.

4. Mumbai Indians player who might be unluckily released before IPL Mega Auction 2022 – Rahul Chahar

Leg-spinner Rahul Chahar has played an integral role in Mumbai Indians’ success over the last few seasons. In the last three seasons, he took a minimum of 13 wickets per tournament. However, because of the mega auction rules, it is likely that Chahar will return to the auction pool.

5. Punjab Kings – Aiden Markram

South African star Aiden Markram joined Punjab Kings as a replacement in the second phase of the season. Markram scored 146 runs in six matches for the team. He has been one of the best South African players in the international arena of late. However, he will likely return to the pool for the IPL Mega Auction 2022.

6. Rajasthan Royals – Evin Lewis

Caribbean batter Evin Lewis aggregated 151 runs in just five matches for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2021. His strike rate was 162.36 in those five games. However, Rajasthan Royals are unlikely to retain him. The franchise will face a huge dilemma to decide which of the two overseas players should be retained from Ben Stokes, Jofra Archer and Jos Buttler.

7. Royal Challengers Bangalore player who might be unluckily released before IPL Mega Auction 2022 – Harshal Patel

It is very rare to see the Purple Cap winner of the previous season getting released before the next auction. However, we might see that happen at the IPL Mega Auction 2022. Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers and Glenn Maxwell seem locks for the three retentions by RCB. The fourth player could probably be Yuzvendra Chahal, Devdutt Padikkal or Mohammed Siraj. The chances of Harshal are very low.

Caribbean all-rounder Jason Holder is one of the most underrated T20 stars. Holder has been one of the top performers for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the last two seasons. The Orange Army might release him because they may consider retaining Rashid Khan and Kane Williamson as their two overseas stars.
