‘Instead Of Twitter, Concentrate And Perform’-Former South Africa Captain Has A Piece Of Advice For Rahul Tewatia

Last week, Rahul Tewatia made headlines for his mysterious tweet that said, “expectations hurts.” The statement was sent shortly after India unveiled the roster for their upcoming trip to Ireland. India has selected a 17-man roster for the next Twenty20 International series, which will begin on June 26 and consist of two matches.

The fact that Tewatia’s name was not on the list was disappointing to the supporters, but they were not surprised by the information since the player had not been selected in the South Africa series that had just finished. In the meantime, former South African captain Graeme Smith has offered some words of wisdom to the youngster, telling him to concentrate more on his game and less on Twitter.

“It’s incredibly challenging in India due to the sheer amount of skill that you guys have. Both coach Rahul Dravid and captain Rohit Sharma are likely to have selected the bulk of their players with an eye on the conditions that they will face in Australia. I would recommend that instead of Twitter, you should concentrate, perform, and the next time your turn comes, make sure no one can leave you out,” Graeme Smith said to Star Sports.

The very least that could have been done was to acknowledge his efforts: Sunil Gavaskar on Rahul Tewatia

The batter, who is now 29 years old, was chosen to represent England in the Twenty20 Internationals that were played at home in 2021, but an injury prevented him from making his debut. During the 2022 season of the Indian Premier League, he was acquired by the Gujarat Titans for a significant sum of money. He played effectively for the team, scoring 217 runs in 16 matches with a strike rate of 147.61.

Tewatia, on the other hand, only bowled a total of six overs for the whole of the IPL season and did not manage to take any wickets. Sunil Gavaskar, a former great batsman for India, believes that he should have been allowed to participate in the next tour of Ireland as a reward for all of the hard work that he has put in.

“Rahul Tewatia ought to have been a part of the squad representing Ireland. Iceman Rahul Tewatia was the only one who should have been on the squad in the first place. During IPL, he was outstanding. Throughout the whole competition, he batted with a great strategy. Someone with that sort of demeanor ought to have been a part of the squad in some capacity, at the very least as the 16th member of the team. At the very least, his efforts should have been acknowledged for what they were,” Gavaskar added.
