Kolkata Knight Riders failed to qualify for the playoffs in the previous edition of the Indian Premier League. They were able to win six games but lost the rest of the eight games in the competition.
As a result, they failed to qualify for the playoffs. Recently, Shreyas Iyer has been dealing with back problems which prevented him from taking part in some important fixtures for Team India.
Earlier, Shreyas Iyer was ruled out of the home ODI series against New Zealand due to a back issue. However, he made a comeback in the third Test against Australia in the Border Gavaskar Trophy.
The star cricketer suffered the same issue again in the Ahmedabad Test and didn’t come out to bat in that Test match. Later on, he was ruled out of the three-match ODI series against Australia.
Nitish Rana has been appointed as the captain of Kolkata Knight Riders
Shreyas Iyer is expected to undergo back surgery and it will certainly take him plenty of time to recover and get back on his feet. As per the media outlets, Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out of the entire IPL 2023 season.
Besides that, there were other reports stating that Shreyas Iyer will be ruled out for at least the first half of the season and that we should be able to see him in action for the second half of the season.
Meanwhile, in the latest development, Nitish Rana has been appointed the captain of KKR, a decision that was taken by the KKR team management, just days ahead of the IPL 2023 season.
Nitish Rana has been one of the integral players of KKR for several years now. He will be looking forward to doing well as a captain and batsman for the two-time IPL champions. Rana scored 2181 runs in 91 games including 15 fifties.
Not a bad option is really good decision by kkr management tbhAdvertisement
