4 Things That Will Happen In IPL 2022 After 11 Years

IPL 2022 is all set to commence from March 26 onwards in Mumbai. It will be the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League. The BCCI initiated this tournament in the year 2008, with eight franchises. After 11 years, fans will see a few similar old things returning in IPL 2022.

Before the IPL 2022 season gets underway, in this article today, we will look at the four things that will happen in the IPL again after 11 years.

1. Matthew Wade returns to IPL after 11 years

Matthew Wade received a contract from the Gujarat Titans at the IPL 2022 Auction. Wade has played only 1 season in the IPL before. He turned up for the Delhi Capitals in IPL 2011 and is now set to play in the IPL again after more than a decade.

2. 10 teams in IPL

The only previous IPL season featuring 10 teams was the 2011 one. At that time, the Kochi Tuskers Kerala and the Pune Warriors joined the league.

This year also, two new franchises have joined the competition. The names of the new teams are Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans.

3. Groups for league stage

Like IPL 2011, the BCCI has divided the teams into two groups. The points table will remain the same, but the teams are in two groups – A and B.

Teams of opposite groups will play against each other once, while the teams in same group and same rows will battle twice during the league round.

4. CSK vs KKR is the 1st match of IPL after 11 years

The Chennai Super Kings faced the Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2011 season opener. After that, there was never another season having CSK vs KKR as the first match.

Now in IPL 2022, fans will witness CSK vs KKR in the opening match again. CSK won the game in 2011, and it will be interesting to see if the same result repeats.
