The former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir is furious about the fact that whenever he goes onto the TV channels or speaks in pre or post-match shows, all the anchors ask him questions about the big superstars and not about players like Suryakumar Yadav.
Gautam Gambhir was speaking in a show organized by Zee network and he lost his cool a little bit in the middle of the show as all the questions were only related to the two superstars of Indian cricket, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
Gambhir told the anchor that right since the time he came onto the show, he was answering questions related to Kohli and the next questions would be about Rohit Sharma or probably KL Rahul because they have more social media following and they are famous names.
But, if performance is the parameter, then the performances of Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya have been better than any other batsmen in the Indian T20I team. The questions should be asked about them, rather than the big superstars all the time.
According to Gautam Gambhir, the problem with the Indian media is that they hero-worship individuals a lot. Rather than hero-worshipping a few players, the media should worship the Indian team as a unit, because it’s the team that brings glory to the nation, not one or two players.
Hero-worshipping one of the reasons why we haven’t won World Cups since 2011: Gautam Gambhir
Gambhir also reckons that hero-worshipping is one of the reasons why India hasn’t been able to win a World Cup since 2011 because India never moved on from hero-worshipping and it continues till date. Even today one or two players are hero-worshipped and the others take the back seat, despite putting on the performances.
Hi @GautamGambhir bhai control your anger. I knownyou didn't get your due of both T20 n ODI final evening but don't blame palyers n sport for this. You are losing it man. Hero worshipping will always remain. Moral policing ki jaroorat nahi hai. Aage kaam per focus rahna chahiye

Gambhir also criticized the media for giving captains like Kapil Dev and MS Dhoni too much credit for the previous World Cup victories and said that he is hoping if India wins the World Cup this time around in Australia, the whole team gets the credit and not just the current captain Rohit Sharma.
