Former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting was one of the best batters to have played the game of cricket. He was a significant contributor to Australian cricket and some of his records after still not broken. Known as “Punter”, he has more than 13,000 runs each in Tests and ODI to go with a total of 71 tons, which is the third most till now. He also captained Australia to great heights and is still the most successful skipper of Australia with the most ICC titles to his name. Ricky Ponting holds the record for the highest individual Test innings in a losing cause. He scored 242 runs against India during the 2003/04 series. While no other Australian batter managed to score over 100 runs, the former skipper scored 242 runs and helped his side post a total of 556 in the first innings. However, he managed a duck in the second game and his side lost the game. With the kind of test cricket teams are playing these days, it’s fair to say that this record might get broken in future.

Highest partnership for any wicket in the ICC Champions Trophy 

Ricky Ponting also holds the record for the highest partnership for any wicket in the ICC Champions Trophy. He piled up unbeaten 252 runs for the second wicket with Shane Watson. It came during the chase of 258 runs against England in 2009 when both of them took bowlers to the cleaners. Ponting smashed an unbeaten 111 from 115 balls, whereas Watson ended with a knock of 136 not out from 132 balls. This record can also be broken in the near future.
