The first season of the Women’s Premier League will happen completely in Mumbai. 11 games will be hosted at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy Stadium. On that note, here, we look at the pitch report of the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy and the weather conditions in Mumbai for WPL 2023.
Since only five teams are in the competition, it will be hard to predict which team would do well. However, based on the team composition, franchises like UP Warriorz and Royal Challengers Bangalore seem to have got a fine balance. Mumbai Indians is also a team that can do well, especially because of the quality of all-rounders in the unit. Delhi Capitals has a mix of youth and experience, which could serve well in the first edition of a tournament. Gujarat Giants does have a few gaps but just like how we saw Gujarat Titans overcome their issues in IPL 2022, we could have Gujarat Giants also do well in WPL 2023. Hence, the upcoming tournament will be an interesting and important one.

In recent months, this venue has hosted quite a few games. While a few matches were held in IPL 2022, some of the women’s international games have also been held recently here.
Generally, this pitch has been batting-friendly. Spinners will have some assistance but compared to the other pitches, they cannot rely too much on the surface. Yet again, batting second at this venue could be ideal.

It is the start of summer and hence, we can expect temperatures to hit as high as 35 degrees Celsius. At night, we may not have temperatures dropping below 20 degrees Celsius.
Humidity is also expected because of Mumbai’s proximity to the coast. Also, we can expect some showers as per the current predictions.
