Rohit Sharma heaps praise on Tilak Varma

After restricting Chennai Super Kings to just 97 in the first innings, it was all set to be an easy chase for Mumbai Indians on Thursday. However, at one point, Mumbai was struggling at 33-4. Important wickets such as that of Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma had already fallen. It was a challenging situation and the young Tilak stepped up. The 19-year-old scored 34 runs from 32 deliveries and helped his team cross the line. Considering Kieron Pollard was not playing, it was brilliant of Tilak to soak the pressure and get the win for his team.

Speaking of his talent at the post-match presentation, Rohit Sharma said, “He (Tilak) has been brilliant, playing for the first year, having such a calm head is never easy. I feel he’s going to be an all-format player for India pretty soon. He’s got the technique and temperament. A lot of things are looking bright for him. And there’s hunger as well.

A brilliant find for Mumbai Indians

A top-order player in domestic cricket, Tilak has done really well in the middle-order for MI. In 12 games, so far, he has scored 368 runs at an average of 40 and a strike rate of 132. For a player in his debut season, this is a brilliant return. Tilak does have a few aspects to work on in his game like facing the quicker bowlers. But, he has a solid base to build on from here.
