India is currently taking on New Zealand in the first game of the three-match series in Hyderabad. The hosts won the toss and decided to bat first. Young Shubman Gill has bailed his side out of trouble after the fall of early wickets at the other end.
However, the game is not only a witness to Gill’s heroics with the bat, but it was also marred by a controversial dismissal as well. Gill and Hardik Pandya were batting staggering well and were about to unleash themselves to close the innings on high.
But the third umpire made a bizarre decision that saw Hardik Pandya back in the hut for 28 runs. It was during the fifth ball of the 40th over when Daryl Mitchell bowled an in-angler delivery that cramped the all-rounder for the room as he missed the cut.
The bails came off and New Zealand appealed for a bowled dismissal. But they weren’t sure as the decision went upstairs and it created a lot of fuss. The replays to be fair seemed like the keeper’s deflection. But the third umpire rules it in favour of the fielding team to send Pandya packing.
