What is the story of Kuldeep Sen – the barber’s son from Madhya Pradesh who rose through the ranks to play for India

Kuldeep Sen was earlier selected to play for India in the ODI series against New Zealand, but he was later held back and added to the squad to play against Bangladesh

Today India handed out their 250th cap in One Day International cricket and the player who received that cap was the speedster from Madhya Pradesh, Kuldeep Sen. Kuldeep was included in India’s playing XI today in the first ODI game against Bangladesh.

Kuldeep is not an unknown cricketer for Indian fans anymore. He featured in a few games for the Rajasthan Royals in the last IPL season and then played in the Irani Trophy earlier in the Indian domestic season as well. He can bowl quick and can extract seam movement and extra bounce out of the surface.

But, very few people know about the background Kuldeep Sen comes from. Kuldeep belongs to a lower middle-class family as his father was the only breadwinner in a family of 4 kids. Kuldeep’s father was a barber and was running a small shop in Rewa, MP before his son rose to prominence and got an IPL contract.

Kuldeep doesn’t just play for the Royals in the IPL, he also plays for the Madhya Pradesh state side and has now made his debut for India as well. But, the background from where he has achieved all this makes it a remarkable story.

Kuldeep Sen has enhanced the financial status of his family

Now that Kuldeep has got various professional cricketing contracts in his kitty, he has significantly enhanced the financial status of his family and the kind of ability that he has, the Indian selectors are of the view that he can go on and serve the Indian cricket for a long time in all three formats of the game.

Kuldeep Sen was earlier selected in the Indian ODI squad for the tour of New Zealand, but then for some reason, he was held back and was added to the squad for the tour of Bangladesh. It remains to be seen how Kuldeep goes about his bowling on his India debut in Dhaka later today. India are defending a low score of 186 in the first ODI.

I write a bit on cricket and I am more interested in technical and tactical side of the game, rather than bravado.
