The CSK head coach Stephen Fleming has revealed that in the middle of the last IPL season, they ran a “captaincy camp” and although he is looking to develop Indian captains to take over the captaincy of the franchise in the future, players like Devon Conway and Moeen Ali were also interested in the captaincy camp.
Chennai Super Kings, after playing under the captaincy of MS Dhoni for more than a decade, made a decision last season that the captaincy baton would be passed on to Ravindra Jadeja and that decision was made by Dhoni himself in consultation with the team owner N Srinivasan.
But, then Jadeja handed the captaincy back to Dhoni in the middle of the season and Dhoni said the reason to switch the captaincy was the fact that the captaincy was taking its toll on Jadeja. Since Jadeja is one of the main players of the team and captaincy was affecting his game, it was in the interest of both the player and the team that his burden was reduced.
Stephen Fleming has been the coach of CSK since the second season of IPL
It’s certain that CSK will play the next IPL season under the captaincy of Dhoni himself, but once Dhoni retires, someone else has to take over and according to Stephen Fleming, who was speaking on ESPNcricinfo, the ideal scenario would be to have Indian captains in future.
Stephen Fleming :
"I'm really keen on developing the Indian captains for CSK. We run a mini captaincy camp during the IPL 2022. Conway and Moeen Ali are also interested, so we have lot of options to develop a plan"#WhistlePodu #IPL #CSK #Cricket

There were many rumors after the last IPL season that Ravindra Jadeja was not happy with the fact that the captaincy was taken away from him and he might part ways with CSK, but currently it seems as if Jadeja might remain at CSK despite whatever happened last season.
Apart from Jadeja, Ruturaj Gaikwad is also one of the captaincy options that CSK has after Dhoni. Ruturaj is not only a consistent performer with the bat, but he also has captaincy experience at the state level as well, as he is currently the captain of Maharashtra.
