Possible replacements of Suresh Raina and Harbhajan Singh in CSK squad

Since the time Suresh Raina and Harbhajan Singh have withdrawn from IPL 2020, there are a lot of talks about their possible replacements in the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) squad. Obviously, those are big boots to fill, but there are some utility players in the domestic circuit of India who can turn out to be apt replacements for these two players.

As far as Raina is concerned, even though he was a top order batsman, CSK doesn’t need a top order batsman to replace him because they already have quite a few players who can bat in top 4.  So, they would probably prefer to replace Raina with an Indian batsman who can be good enough to bat at no. 5 or no. 6 and hit sixes in the latter parts of the innings.

Yusuf Pathan and Rohan Kadam can replace Suresh Raina

A couple of options which are available for possible replacement of Raina are Yusuf Pathan and Rohan Kadam. Yusuf has been a seasoned campaigner in IPL cricket and has won a number of games for Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals in the past, but he currently doesn’t have an IPL contract.

Yusuf is someone who has batted in the lower middle order for most parts of his career and can be an ideal fit at no. 6, but the problem with him is that he is now in the twilight of his career and his performances in the last couple of IPL seasons have not been up to the standards at all.

Kadam is someone who had caught a lot of eyeballs, playing for Karnataka in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy last year and he is someone who is not only capable of hitting sixes, but he is temperamentally pretty good as well and can be brilliantly calculative in terms of his shot-selections at the crucial junctures of the game.

Harbhajan’s replacement has to be either an off spinner or a mystery spinner and one of the options available in the market is KC Cariappa. He has played a few games in the IPL in the past for Kings XI Punjab, but without much success. However, he is a much improved bowler now and might turn out to be useful for CSK against teams with a lot of left-handers.

I write a bit on cricket and I am more interested in technical and tactical side of the game, rather than bravado.
