Fans on Twitter erupted in joy after reports suggested that Shardul Thakur is one of the two players in the race for Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) captaincy for the IPL 2023. They were delighted to see the fast bowler’s name for the leadership role and said that if he becomes the skipper the two-time champions will be Team Lord.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 is around the corner. The 16th edition of the tournament will kick start from 31st March and Kolkata Knight Riders will open their campaign against Punjab Kings on 1st April.
Kolkata Knight Riders have already suffered a major blow as their skipper Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out of at least the first half of the tournament as per various credible sources. The batter suffered a back injury during the fifth game of the Test series against Australia and was ruled out of the ODI series as well. His injury seems to be much worse than expected as it is learned that he will be out of action for 3-6 months.
His absence will come as a major blow for the team as they will lose a quality skipper and a batter. However, as per the latest reports in the Times of India, it is learned that in his place either of Sunil Narine or Shardul Thakur will be handed the leadership responsibility.

While Narine has a fair amount of captaincy experience, Thakur will be new to the role. With a fast bowler being Indian, it is expected that he might have a strong chance. Also, Narine was KKR’s captain in CPL and his record isn’t great. This might also come into consideration and pave way for Thakur.
The reports also suggest that KKR will organize a grand function to announce their new captain and Shahrukh Khan will be present too at the event. It is expected that they will announce their skipper soon as all the captains will be will attend a meeting in Ahmedabad on March 30th.
