The 46th match of the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League is underway at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune right now, where the Chennai Super Kings are battling the Sunrisers Hyderabad. MS Dhoni has returned as the CSK skipper, and immediately after his comeback, Ruturaj Gaikwad has returned to form as well.
Gaikwad, who looked off-color in the initial matches of IPL 2022, played a fantastic inning of 99 runs tonight against the Sunrisers Hyderabad. He opened the innings with Devon Conway and had a record-breaking partnership of 182 runs for the first wicket. T Natarajan finally broke the partnership by picking up the wicket of Ruturaj.
Speaking with the host broadcasters after the first innings, Ruturaj Gaikwad said:
“The game plan was simple. The wicket was slow so the plan was I will hit when I get pace. We have not opened together but we have spent a lot of time with him. No dew around and I am pretty much confident that we will defend it.”
Gaikwad hit six fours and six sixes in his 57-ball knock. His power-packed performance helped the Chennai Super Kings finish with a score of 202 runs on the board in their 20 overs. Devon Conway supported him to perfection with an unbeaten 55-ball 85*, smacking eight fours and four sixes.
None of the Sunrisers Hyderabad bowlers could impress much tonight against the Chennai Super Kings. T Natarajan was the only bowler who could take wickets for the Hyderabad-based franchise, but he conceded 42 runs off his four overs.
