“Rovman Powell had promised his mom he would take his family out of poverty,” reveals Ian Bishop

Rovman Powell has played two sensational innings for Delhi Capitals in the last two IPL games

Rovman Powell is one of the best power hitters in the game at the moment and he has already shown that a couple of times while playing for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2022. Powell played a match winning knock of 30 odd yesterday against KKR, but a match before that, against the Rajasthan Royals, Powell was looking in even better rhythm with the bat.

When the last over of the game between Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals started, Delhi needed 36 runs to win the game and generally, whoever is batting with this kind of an equation, the game is considered almost done because it’s just a matter of one dot ball for the bowler.

But, Powell is such a dangerous power hitter that he made a match even out of that situation by hitting three consecutive sixes off first three balls, with the third one arguably being a no ball. Although Delhi couldn’t win that game at the end, but Powell’s effort caught the eyes of one and all and he became a talking point in this year’s IPL.

Ian Bishop made a revelation about the life of Rovman Powell

The former West Indies fast bowler Ian Bishop, after last night’s game between Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) where Powell played a match-winning innings, revealed on ESPNcricinfo that Powell comes from a modest family background and when he was in his secondary school, he had promised his mom that he would take his family out of poverty.

Bishop said that he is so happy that after missing out on an IPL contract for a few years because of his form, Rovman Powell has finally got an IPL gig at Delhi Capitals with a contract worth 2.8 crore INR and he is doing complete justice not just to his talent, but also the price that he was bought for, in the mega auction.

I write a bit on cricket and I am more interested in technical and tactical side of the game, rather than bravado.
