“We Have Trained Umpires Ready”- Iceland Cricket Sends A Message To BCCI After Virat Kohli’s Controversial Dismissal

The 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League began last month in Maharashtra, and so far 18 matches have happened in the league stage of the tournament. The 18th match of the competition was between the Royal Challengers Bangalore and the Mumbai Indians, where the Bangalore-based franchise won. However, there was a controversy regarding Virat Kohli’s dismissal.

Winner of the match was almost decided when Dewald Brevis came in to bowl the 19th over of the second innings in the match between the Royal Challengers Bangalore and the Mumbai Indians. Only formalities remained and it seemed like Kohli would be the player to score the winning runs, thereby complete his half-century.

However, what happened on the first ball of Brevis’ IPL career was not something that the fans would have expected. The U-19 star of South Africa trapped Virat in front of his stumps. Virat was surprised when the umpire raised his finger and reviewed it. In the replays, it looked like the ball hit the bat and the pad, but the third umpire ruled the decision in the fielding team’s favor.

Fans were unhappy after Virat Kohli’s dismissal. Soon after, Iceland Cricket’s official Twitter handle wrote:

“It’s not easy for on field umpires to detect inside edges or whether ball hit bat or pad first. But every TV umpire should be able to make the right call with the benefit of slow motion replays and technology like UltraEdge.  @BCCI We have trained umpires ready to fly over.”

Virat Kohli’s dismissal luckily did not have a major impact on the match

Close umpiring calls like these could have a big impact on a match’s result, but since the Royal Challengers Bangalore needed only eight runs off two overs, the Bangalore-based franchise managed to record a win in the end.

After Virat Kohli’s dismissal, Glenn Maxwell smashed two fours off the next two balls as the Royal Challengers Bangalore won the match by seven wickets.
