2 players you might not know played in Rohit Sharma’s debut T20I match in 2007

It was in the 2007 T20 World Cup that Rohit Sharma made his T20I debut. It was a game against England at the Kingsmead Stadium. Rohit Sharma did not get a chance to bat in this match. This game is famously remembered for Yuvraj Singh’s six sixes in an over against Stuart Broad. Since then, Rohit has come a long way. He also recently led India in the 2022 T20 World Cup. Here, we take a look at two players you might not know played in Rohit Sharma’s debut T20I match in 2007.

1) Joginder Sharma

Joginder Sharma falls into an interesting category of cricketers. He played T20I cricket for India only in the World Cup and never played again for the nation. This is despite him having put up a decent show in that tournament.

As many might remember, Joginder was part of India’s successful 2007 T20 WC campaign. In fact, he bowled the last over in the final against Pakistan and helped India get the wicket of Misbah-ul-Haq. After that, though, Joginder could not make it big in his cricket career. Interestingly, unlike the other retired cricketers, he is not even connected to the game now. He is now a police officer in Haryana.

2) S Sreesanth

S Sreesanth is one of the players you might not know who played in Rohit Sharma’s debut T20I match in 2007. It can be said that India had a fine pace-trio for the 2007 T20 WC and Sreesanth was an important part of it. He took some crucial wickets in that tournament.

After the spot-fixing issue in the IPL, the speedster found it hard to make a comeback. He did return to play domestic cricket again but was not consistent. After his retirement, Sreesanth has been involved in global T20 leagues such as the Legends League Cricket and other tournaments.
