Transfer News: Newcastle United is set to make a strong bid to Leicester City for James Maddison

Newcastle United Transfer News: It has been stated that Newcastle United is getting ready to make a stronger offer to acquire James Maddison, who is interested in the possibility of playing for the Magpies

Newcastle United Transfer News: Ben Jacobs, a journalist for CBS Sports, claims that Newcastle United has prioritized the signing of England international James Maddison as their primary offensive target for the summer. The 25-year-old player is expected to remain a focal point of discussions between Newcastle United and Leicester City, and the Magpies want to submit an improved offer for the player in the coming days.

Since joining Leicester City in 2018, the 25-year-old has played a total of 171 times for the East Midlands club, during which time he has been directly involved in scoring 77 goals (45 goals, 32 assists). Maddison still has a solid case to be considered Leicester City’s top performer, despite the fact that he has struggled with injuries and inconsistency over the course of the last couple of seasons.

Newcastle United Transfer News: What’s the matter?

This value was made abundantly evident during the previous season when the England international scored 12 goals and contributed eight assists only in the English premier league. In addition, the England international added ten additional direct contributions across all competitions. It was Maddison’s most prolific season in terms of goals scored, as he touched double digits in the Premier League for the first time. It was also Maddison’s debut season in the Premier League.

It goes without saying that his talents have caught the attention of a number of teams playing in the top division, one of which being Newcastle United. The first bid of about £40 million that Newcastle made for the offensive midfielder has already been turned down by Leicester. The Foxes will be hesitant to trade their key player to a team that competes directly with them in the Premier League because they are anxious to maintain hold of him.

Because of this, they have set Maddison’s price at £60 million and are concurrently going to give him a lucrative new contract in the hopes of persuading him to extend his stay at the King Power Stadium. However, Leicester might still be in for a battle to keep hold of Maddison, who has just two years remaining on his present contract and has indicated that he would be open to moving to St. James’ Park if a transfer agreement could be reached between both teams.

Will the move be finalized?

The higher-ups at Newcastle United feel there is room for discussion with Leicester because of their predicament in the market this summer. As a result, they are reportedly working on improving their offer in the hopes of persuading the Foxes to rethink their position. Leicester has not yet made its first signing of the summer, and in order to comply with the laws of Financial Fair Play, they must first offload some of their current roster members before bringing in any new faces.

If Newcastle is able to work out a deal for Maddison, it would be a significant acquisition for them to make this summer. They would be gaining access to a multi-talented, elite-level midfielder who is very smart and effective in the offensive third of the field.

While doing so, Newcastle would be weakening a competitor for one of the berths in Europe for the next season by snatching away their primary creator. The two Premier League teams are separated by close to £20 million in their appraisal of the 25-year-old England international. Despite this, the Tyneside outfit still has a lot of distance to make up for this one.
