The reports also suggested that Axar Patel will his debut this season. The development came after regular skipper Rishabh Pant injured himself in a road accident a few months ago.

The keeper batter suffered two lacerative wounds on his forehead along with a ligament tear in the knee and has also hurt his right wrist, ankle, and toe and has suffered abrasions on his back.

Pant is likely to take at least 6 months or more to recover, which means that he is most likely to miss IPL 2023 as well. Therefore DC decided to make Warner as a skipper.

Warner, on the other hand, has a fair amount of captaincy experience as he led Sunrisers Hyderabad for a long time and led them to the title win in 2016. In the 62 matches that he captained the team, he won 35 out of them at a win percentage of 52.17.
