Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Faf du Plessis won the toss and decided to bowl first. The RCB bowlers got off to a good start as they picked up three wickets, conceding only 33 runs to the Rajasthan Royals. Jos Buttler, Devdutt Padikkal and Ravichandran Ashwin were back in the dressing room before the score even crossed 35.

While Mohammed Siraj trapped Padikkal in front of his stumps and then caught Ashwin off his own bowling, it was Josh Hazlewood who took the prized wicket of Jos Buttler. Hazlewood bowled the fifth over of the first innings.

Jos Buttler tried to hit a shot in the mid-on region. However, he could not connect his shot well. The ball went towards the fielder Siraj who executed a magnificent catch to send Buttler back to the dressing room.

New batter Daryl Mitchell looked nervous on his IPL debut as he played five dot balls. Hazlewood completed a wicket-maiden. Here’s what Siraj said about his and Hazlewood’s performance in the first innings after RR’s 20 overs ended:

“I went searching for swing (on the first ball) but he hit a good shot. So, after that, I just backed myself to extract the most of the seam movement off this surface and it paid off today. Hazlewood’s line and length is brilliant and he gets extra bounce off the surface.”
