Indian cricket team captain Jasprit Bumrah has broken former Indian skipper Kapil Dev’s 40-year-old record for the most wickets by an Indian pacer in an away Test series against the England cricket team. Back in 1981/82, Dev scalped 22 wickets for the Indian team.
Now, in the 2021/22 ICC World Test Championship series between the Indian cricket team and the England cricket team, Jasprit Bumrah has scalped 24 wickets. He had 22 wickets to his name in the series before he started to bowl in the second innings of the Edgbaston Test match.
Alex Lees and Zak Crawley gave a flying start to the England cricket team in the second innings. Captain Bumrah broke the partnership by sending Crawley back to the dressing room with a jaffa. Soon after, Bumrah picked up the wicket of Ollie Pope and took his tally in this series to 24.
Jasprit Bumrah and Kapil Dev are the only Indians to have taken 20 or wickets in a Test series against England away from home. The next name on this list is Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who scalped 19 wickets when the Indian cricket team visited the United Kingdom in 2014.

Since Rohit Sharma tested positive for COVID-19 before the start of the Edgbaston Test match, the Indian team management named Jasprit Bumrah as the stand-in skipper. Bumrah lost his first toss as captain, but he can lead the team to a win. Speaking at the toss, Bumrah had said:
“It’s a good feeling and is a big privilege. Can’t get better than this. Excited and looking forward to this. Very happy with the preparation. Wanted to spend a lot of time and get used to the English conditions, as we came back from the T20s. Happy with the preparation, now it’s for the mental side to take over.
