“It Is Obviously Misconstrued”- KKR Insider Says Shreyas Iyer’s Comment About CEO Involving Himself In Team Selection Is Not Correct

It seems like all is not well in the Kolkata Knight Riders camp because there have been some contradicting statements made by captain Shreyas Iyer and an inside source of the franchise. Yesterday night, when Kolkata Knight Riders defeated Mumbai Indians in IPL 2022, KKR skipper Shreyas said that team selection is an important process in the franchise. Even the CEO of the team, Venky Mysore, is a part of the process.

Here’s what Iyer said at the post-match presentation of the IPL 2022 fixture between the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Mumbai Indians:

“We discuss with the coaches and the CEO is also involved in the team selections. The players are very supportive in the decision making. I’m really happy with this. As you see the win, it was comprehensive.”

But in an interview with PTI earlier today, an inside source of the Kolkata Knight Riders stated that the CEO does not have any role in the team selection. He said that only captain Shreyas Iyer and coach Brendon McCullum take decisions in that department.

“It is obviously misconstrued. I don’t think KKR’s CEO has ever got involved in team selections. It’s up to the Captain Shreyas Iyer and coach,” KKR’s team source said.

Shreyas Iyer made a wholesale of changes to the Kolkata Knight Riders playing XI yesterday evening

It is interesting to note that the Kolkata Knight Riders team made five changes to its playing XI for the IPL 2022 match against the Mumbai Indians. It is quite uncommon to see a team make so many changes, but KKR decided to make some big changes after the defeat against the Lucknow Super Giants.

Ajinkya Rahane, Venkatesh Iyer, Sheldon Jackson, Pat Cummins, and Varun Chakravarthy walked into the Kolkata Knight Riders playing XI as they replaced Shivam Mavi, Aaron Finch, Harshit Rana, Baba Indrajith, and Anukul Roy.
