IPL 2020: Suryakumar Yadav opens up on the banter with Virat Kohli

Mumbai Indians star batsman Suryakumar Yadav was absolutely gutted when he found out that he was not going to be a part of the Indian squad for the tour to Australia. However, he did not let the disappointment of not being selected affect his game as in a very short time, he had to face Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Chasing 165 runs to win. Suryakumar Yadav smashed a brilliant unbeaten 79 off just 43 balls to help MI beat RCB by five wickets. But during the game, there were times when Virat Kohli, in his own aggressive way, tried to get under the skin of Suryakumar Yadav. Although it looked to be a heated interaction at the time, Suryakumar revealed that it was all instinctive and in good spirit.

“It was all very instinctive. Virat Kohli is a huge cricketing figure and he plays the game very aggressively. It was an important game for both teams and whatever happened, it did during the game,” Suryakumar Yadav told Hindustan Times in an exclusive interview.

I look up to Virat Kohli: Suryakumar Yadav

Suryakumar Yadav also stated that both him and Kohli shared a light moment about the banter after the game and the latter congratulated him on his innings. The 30-year-old believes that it is the way Kohli plays his game and that is what brings the best out of him. He was happy that he could withstand the pressure and win the game for his team.

“After the game, we laughed about it and he congratulated me on my batting. Virat’s brand of cricket is top class and the way he dominates world cricket is just amazing. I too look up to him. In the end, it was great to win the game,” Suryakumar Yadav said.

Suryakumar Yadav became the first uncapped player to reach 2000 IPL runs and has been a highly successful player for the Mumbai Indians over the past three seasons. It will not be long until he gets his maiden call-up to play for the Men in Blue.
