Shreyas Iyer gets ruled out of the ODI series against New Zealand due to a back injury

India and New Zealand are all set to lock horns with each other in the white-ball series. The ODI series between the teams will kick start from 18th January in Hyderabad whereas the second and third games will be played on the 21st and 24th January in Raipur and Indore respectively.

With just one day remaining for the first game, India has suffered a major blow as batter Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out of the series due to a back injury. The middle-order batter will now head to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) for further assessment and management.

In his place, BCCI has named Rajat Patidar as a replacement for the three-match series. Iyer’s injury will leave a massive void in the middle order as he has been India’s best batter in the format of late. However, it’ll be the opportunity for someone like Suryakumar Yadav and young Rajat Patidar to give the selection committee more headaches.

Here’s India’s updated squad for the ODI series

Rohit Sharma (Captain), Shubman Gill, Ishan Kishan (wk), Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, KS Bharat (wk), Hardik Pandya (vice-captain), Rajat Patidar, Washington Sundar, Shahbaz Ahmed, Shardul Thakur, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohd. Shami, Mohd. Siraj, Umran Malik.
