“Nothing To Do With Budget”- Harsha Bhogle Posts A Long Thread To Defend Powercut Leading To Unavailability Of DRS For CSK

The 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League is happening right now in Maharashtra. Yesterday evening, fans witnessed the reverse fixture of the El Clasico battle between the Chennai Super Kings and the Mumbai Indians, where the Mumbai-based franchise emerged victoriously. Wankhede Stadium played host to this big game, but because of a power cut, there was no DRS available during the first few overs of the contest.

Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided to bowl first. Daniel Sams bowled a ball that seemed like it was sliding down the leg. It hit Devon Conway’s pads, and the Mumbai Indians appealed for an LBW, which was surprising given out by the umpire.

Conway asked for a DRS, but he was informed that the technology was temporarily unavailable because of a power cut in the stadium. Chennai Super Kings fans were furious after seeing the way their team’s batter lost his wicket. Many CSK fans slammed IPL organizers and questioned how could such a technical error happen in a big game.

Explaining the reason for it, famous Indian commentator Harsha Bhogle posted a lengthy thread on Twitter. Firstly, he clarified that fans with an open mind should only read the reasons given by him.

Harsha Bhogle reveals why powercut led to DRS unavailability in first few overs

Harsha Bhogle said that the machines used for DR’s reboot when there is a power cut. The coverage of the match continued due to generators, but the same was not possible for DRS. Here’s what he wrote:

“When you lose power, the generators come on automatically and that is how the coverage continues. But some machines need to reboot and that takes time and that is when DRS is unavailable. This is the situation all over the world. It has nothing to do with budgets or planning.”
