“India can pick three different teams and can still compete anywhere,” Darren Gough awestruck by the depth of cricketing talent in India

India has recently beaten England in both 20-over and 50-over cricket in their own backyard

The former England fast bowler Darren Gough reckons that there is so much depth in the cricketing talent pool of India that India can pick three different teams and they would still be able to emerge as a competitive side in any competition in the world.

Darren Gough, who was in conversation with Cricket.com earlier today, said there shouldn’t be any problem for India if three of their main ODI players are missing from the tour of West Indies because the young players that India has got as replacements are all fantastic players.

Interestingly, the Indian allrounder Hardik Pandya had also passed a similar statement on India’s tour of Sri Lanka last year when India had beaten Sri Lanka in the ODI series with their second string team. But, later India lost the T20I series on the tour and Hardik had to take a bit of flak for his statement.

However, the way India performed on the recent tour of England and beat them in both the T20I and the ODI series in their own backyard, despite England being perceived as the best white ball team in the world, it impressed Darren Gough a lot.

India has plenty of talent coming through domestic cricket and IPL: Darren Gough

According to Gough, it’s not just what India did on the England tour, but the players that they have got coming through their domestic cricket and the way their young players have been performing under massive pressure in the IPL, it just shows the depth of Indian cricket.

Gough believes India doesn’t really need to worry about replacements whenever their main players are not available because they have got plenty of replacements available.

Since 2015, when England completely changed their brand of white ball cricket under the captaincy of Eoin Morgan and got results all around the world including the World Cup triumph, India is the only team which has dominated England.

Out of the 8 white ball series that India and England have played home and away since 2015, India has won 7 and lost just one.

I write a bit on cricket and I am more interested in technical and tactical side of the game, rather than bravado.
