The Indian allrounder Ravindra Jadeja has revealed when he was asked to bat at no. 4 in the Asia Cup game against Pakistan last Sunday, he was not surprised at all because he knew Pakistan had a left arm spinner and a leg spinner in their attack and he was the only left hander in the Indian batting line-up to counter them.
The Indian team management promoted Ravindra Jadeja up the order to bat at no. 4 after India lost a couple of wickets in the first 8 overs in the pursuit of a modest target of 148. The ball was sticking into the pitch a little bit and Pakistan’s gameplan was to create pressure by bowling dot balls against right handed Indian top 6.
But, that gameplan was disrupted as Jadeja walked in at no. 4 and took Pakistan’s left arm spinner Mohammad Nawaz on. Because of Jadeja’s clear intention of going after Nawaz, the Pakistan skipper Babar Azam had to take Nawaz off the attack and had to bring the fast bowlers on.
Till the time Ravindra Jadeja was at the crease, Babar kept delaying the 4th over of Nawaz and eventually, he got himself into a situation where he had to give the 20th over of the innings to Nawaz. That didn’t turn out beneficial for Pakistan at all, as Hardik Pandya hit Nawaz over the ropes to win the game for India.

My batting position will depend on composition of opposition’s bowling attack: Ravindra Jadeja
Yesterday, Ravindra Jadeja was addressing the pre match press conference ahead of India’s second match in the ongoing Asia Cup against Hong Kong. When he was asked if he would continue batting at no. 4 as he did against Pakistan, Jadeja said it would depend on the composition of opposition’s bowling attack.
Pakistan’s bowling attack had a couple of spinners who were taking the ball away from right handers and that’s why he was promoted up the order to counter that match-up. But, every bowling attack might not have that composition.
