Former Australian cricketer Ricky Ponting has made a bold statement. He said that the Indian team should stick with Suryakumar Yadav in the ODIs as he can win the World Cup. He correlated batter with Andre Symmonds, saying that he’s a big-moment player.
Suryakumar Yadav struggling to get going in ODIs
Indian batter Suryakumar Yadav has hogged the headlines for his heroics in T20 cricket. He is a short span of time has developed himself into one of the most talked about batters in Indian Cricket with his heroics.
Ever since he made his debut for India, he has made a vital contribution in every match he has played. While there’s no doubt about his ability in the shortest format of the game, he’s yet to make a mark in ODIs as he has so far failed to get going in the format.
The batter has found it difficult to find his feet in the ODIs for some reason. He’s struggling to score runs as well. He recently bagged three consecutive golden ducks against Australia which worsen the case for him more in the 50-over format. In the 23 games, he averages just 24.04 and has amassed just 433 runs.

With ODI World Cup 2023 around the corner, there has been a lot of scrutiny about Suryakumar Yadav’s place in the side. But Ricky Pointing feels that India should back batter and give him chances in the team as he can win them the World Cup. Speaking during the ICC review, he said;
“I feel India should stick with Suryakumar Yadav in ODI, he is the sort of player that can win you World Cup, he might be a little bit inconsistent but sort of player for big moments, a bit like late Great Symmonds did for Australia”.

Suryakumar Yadav is currently playing IPL 2023. Whereas Ricky Ponting is also part of the league as he’s part of the Delhi Capitals support staff setup.
