Here is how India can qualify for 2023 WTC Final after Australia’s 2-0 series win against South Africa

With the last game ending in a draw, Australia would take home the series 2-0. While they have almost booked a spot in the finals of WTC, it is interesting to see whom they will meet. Here, we take a look at how India can qualify for the 2023 WTC Final after Australia’s 2-0 series win against South Africa.

India’s road becomes clearer for the 2023 WTC Final

South Africa was the big stumbling block for Team India on the road to the WTC final. However, with the Proteas losing the series 2-0 to Australia, India’s chances have improved. India’s only assignment before the summit clash will be the four-match Test series against Australia, which would happen in Feb-March this year.

Team India needs to win at least two of the matches in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy to reach the finals of WTC. This is assuming Sri Lanka will lose the two games in the tour to New Zealand. Of course, if Sri Lanka wins some matches, the scenario would get tougher for the Indians.

The men in blue will have their own issues

Although India has been dominant at home, they will have a few problems against Australia. In the recent series against Bangladesh, India had quite a few issues in the batting department. If not for R Ashwin and Shreyas Iyer’s partnership, India might have lost the last game. Now, with Rishabh Pant unavailable, India would have more issues in this department.

Moreover, Australia is one side that is in top form. Recently, David Warner also returned to form. Steve Smith is a great player of spin and he would be the main thorn in the batting line-up for the Indian bowlers. India does seem settled in the bowling department but will be keen to avoid injuries. Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja are both likely to return to the Test squad for this series.
