Here is how India can qualify for Asia Cup 2022 Finals

Team India will have been put into a spot of bother in the Asia Cup. The chances of reaching the finals of the event have come down considerably. That said, mathematically, India can still reach the finals despite losing to both Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Here, we take a look at the scenario of how India can qualify for the finals of the Asia Cup 2022.

India will depend on others to qualify for the finals of the Asia Cup 2022

India has to win its next game against Afghanistan to have any chances of being in the final. If India loses to Mohammad Nabi and co., the chances will instantly fall down.

On the other hand, some of the other results also have to go India’s way. Firstly, Pakistan must lose to both Afghanistan and Sri Lanka for India to have a chance. Since Sri Lanka would qualify after two wins, Pakistan must be stopped from gaining two victories for India to have a chance. In this scenario, as well, India has to fight off NRR competition from other teams to get a chance in the summit clash. Overall, the likelihood of the results happening in India’s favour is low.

Can India win Asia Cup 2022?

Based on the results so far, India first has to reach the finals of the event. It is unlikely that Pakistan will lose both of their remaining games. Hence, at the moment, India has a very tough chance to win Asia Cup 2022.

That said, if somehow India does reach the finals, they will surely be the favourites to lift the trophy. Having been part of such close games, they would be confident if they reach the finals.

India needs to alter its strategy before the 2022 T20 World Cup

Meanwhile, the poor performance in Asia Cup will be a wake-up call for the Indians. There are multiple issues for the management to fix and that has to happen at the earliest. The first one will be to address the issue of balance. In both games, India struggled to have a sixth bowler despite the others doing poorly.

The batting at the death was also a concern. With the middle order not flourishing, India could not take a lot of risks in the end. This had a considerable effect on the final score. The top order issues also have to be fixed for India to think of doing well at T20 World Cup.
