Most International Sixes: Rohit Sharma on the verge of breaking Shahid Afridi’s record

Rohit Sharma has developed the habit of regularly toppling records in recent months. Be it with his captaincy achievements or with his batting exploits, there has been a number of records that the Indian skipper has broken recently. Now, he has set his sights on another important record. The Indian opener is on the verge of breaking Shahid Afridi’s record in the most International sixes. We talk more about it in the below sections.

Most International Sixes in men’s cricket

Six-hitting requires a combination of skills to work in the cricketer’s favour. While timing the ball has to be close to perfection, there is also the requirement of brute force to hit sixes regularly. The intent of the cricketer to take on the bowler and also the position he/she bats at will also have an impact.

So far, across the three formats of the game, Chris Gayle holds the record for hitting the most number of sixes. In 551 innings, the West Indian cricketer has recorded 553 sixes. That is equal to more than one six per innings. This is a remarkable record but seeing how Gayle plays his game, it is not a surprise. The same holds good with Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi, who hit 476 sixes in his international career. Now, Rohit Sharma is all set to overtake him on the list.

Rohit Sharma will target the top spot

The Indian Team will play a lot of games in the coming months. As a captain of the squad and being the opener, Rohit will have plenty of time and opportunities to hit more sixes. At the moment, the Mumbai cricketer has 64 sixes in Tests, 250 sixes in ODIs, and 159 sixes in T20I cricket. The total count is 473, just three behind Shahid Afridi.

While it could take just one game to break Shahid’s record, Gayle‘s number will also be a target for the player. Even if Rohit is in the game for a couple of years, he can easily attain this record. It will be a stunning feat to have for the cricketer.
