“He is a personality player, but he plays all situations perfectly,” Nasser Hussain hails Rishabh Pant’s blend of smartness and flamboyance

Rishabh Pant scored two eye catching hundreds for India in the test match and third ODI respectively on the England tour

The former England captain Nasser Hussain was very impressed with the way Rishabh Pant batted in a tricky situation for India in the last ODI against England at Old Trafford yesterday.

Rishabh Pant walked in to bat when India had lost two early wickets while chasing 260. While Pant was at the crease, India further lost two more wickets and were in deep trouble at one stage. But, Pant showed no signs of panic at all and stitched together a match-winning partnership with Hardik Pandya.

Pant didn’t go after the bowling straightaway and took his time to get his eye in and get a feel of the pace of the surface, but once he had his eye in, India’s dynamic wicketkeeper batsman took the English attack to the cleaners.

Nasser Hussain was talking to Sony Sports Network at the end of the game where he was asked about Pant’s knock and he said there are two types of players – personality players and situation players. Personality players are those who always play the same way, calling it their natural game, while situation players adapt to the state of the game at a given point of time.

According to Nasser Hussain, Pant is someone who is generally a personality player and likes to impose himself on the opposition whenever he goes out there to bat, but he also plays all kinds of situations if need be.

Whether it’s Brisbane or Manchester, Pant is always there for India: Nasser Hussain

Recalling that Brisbane test match against Australia in 2020 where Pant had played a match winning knock of 89 and relating it to the knock he played in Manchester yesterday, Hussain said these were two different kinds of situations in two different conditions. But, Pant played both the situations perfectly despite being regarded as a flamboyant and a personality player.

Rishabh Pant, before scoring the series winning hundred in the third ODI, had already scored a masterclass of a hundred in the test match against England at Edgbaston.

I write a bit on cricket and I am more interested in technical and tactical side of the game, rather than bravado.
