Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has picked his future captain for the Chennai Super Kings. He feels Ruturaj Gaikwad is the ideal candidate to captain the franchise as he has got captaincy experience and team needs somebody who is a certainty.

IPL 2023 potentially will be the last season for MS Dhoni in the league. The four-time champions have been extremely dominant in the league and it’s fair to say that the keeper batter is the main reason behind it.
With MS Dhoni likely to retire after the season, it’ll be a great headache for the team about who will be their next captain. They tried to pass the baton last year when they named Ravindra Jadeja as the skipper but the move didn’t work out as he failed as a captain and the keeper batter took back the charge.
With many young players on the side along with some seniors in the side, there are many speculations about who will be the leader of the side once MS Dhoni calls time on his career.
Speaking on Star Sports, he said: “He has captained Maharashtra as well in the domestic circuit. So he has got captaincy experience. More importantly, I think he is a certainty in the team. You have got to be somebody who is a certainty, who is one of the first picks. I just think captaincy will make him that much more consistent.”

“We saw that when Rohit Sharma was first made captain of the Mumbai Indians,” Sunil Gavaskar says Ruturaj Gaikwad could do what Rohit Sharma did for MI
Sunil Gavaskar further went on to cite the example of Rohit Sharma, saying that Ruturaj Gaikwad could do what Rohit Sharma did for MI. He said:
“We saw that when Rohit Sharma was first made captain of the Mumbai Indians. Before that, he was playing these lovely cameos. After he was made captain of the Mumbai Indians, he was scoring big runs because he realized how important his wicket was to the opposition and so he wasn’t giving it away. So I think it could be pretty similar with Ruturaj Gaikwad.”
It remains to be seen what will be future of Ruturaj Gaikwad with CSK. The IPL 2023 will kick start from 31st March.
