Faf du Plessis reveals which Indian bowler has given him sleepless nights in his Test career

Faf du Plessis has scored over 11000 runs for South Africa across formats.

Former South African skipper Faf du Plessis has revealed the name of the Indian bowler who has given him sleepless nights in his Test career. He said that although Pakistan’s Saeed Ajmal was tough to face but it was Ravindra Jadeja who troubled him a lot.

Faf du Plessis’ international career 

Far du Plessis arguably is one of the finest players that South Africa has produced. Termed a class act he played an instrumental role in taking the Proteas Cricket to great heights on the world stage along with the likes of AB de Villiers, Hashim Amla, Dale Steyn and others.

Not only with the bat, but he also did a terrific job for his side as a leader as well. Du Plessis was one of the most consistent players for him as he scored runs both at home as well as in overseas conditions.

He played 69 Tests for South Africa, scoring 4136 runs at an average of 40.33 to go with 10 hundreds and 21 half-centuries. He was a stalwart in ODIs as in 143 games he amassed 5507 runs at an average of 46.67 to go with 12 tons and 35 fiftieths. He also represented South Africa in 50 T20Is, in which he scored 1528 runs at an average and strike rate of 35.53 and 134.39 respectively to go with 1 century and 10 half centuries.

However, despite having an illustrious career, Faf du Plessis had sleepless nights because of one Indian bowler. Speaking to ESPNCricinfo, he revealed who troubled him a lot. He said: “Saeed Ajmal quite a bit. Then Test matches in India, it was Ravindra Jadeja.” 

Ravindra Jadeja has taken 242 wickets in Test cricket, 189 in ODIs, and 51 in T20Is. He was out for a long time with an injury but now has been included in the Test side for the first two games against Australia. He will have to prove his match fitness by competing in one of the Ranji Trophy matches.
