As dusk set itself upon the glittering antiquity of Indian Test captain, Virat Kohli, his fans were presented with an evil harbinger. Virat Kohli bade adieu to Test captaincy after five glittering years at the helm. The announcement came after India bowed out to South Africa at the Newlands Stadium in the stadium, following a batting collapse in the second innings and some poor bowling display.
There was also a firestorm of controversy when Kohli bounced a few choice words off Dean Elgar following the LBW incident, and a boatload of flak followed.
Kohli took over the captaincy of India in the longest format of the game from MS Dhoni. Even though were premature bouts of captaincy in the intermittent absence of Mahi, he became the skipper of the Test team in 2017.

Ever since he stepped foot in the international arcade as a captain, he led India in 68 Tests out of which he registered a staggering 40 victories that gave him a win percentage of 58.82.
His team slumped down 17 times while drawing the contest just 11 times. He also led the nation to the finale of the maiden WTC edition, where India bowed out to New Zealand after a collapse in the second innings. He also became the Indian captain with the highest number of Test matches under his belt. Virat also registered the highest number of victories with 40 wins in his tally. Kohli registered 24 wins at home, which is once again the highest by any Indian Test captain.
He managed to chronicle 20 Test centuries, which is the most for an Indian skipper. Across the entire planet, he is second in the list just behind Graeme Smith. Kohli managed to score 7 double-centuries as a captain, that is by far the highest number of 200s racked up by any Test skipper.
Virat is also the highest Indian run-scorer in Test cricket as a captain that has seen him bag 5864 runs in the matches where he led his team. Twitter was left in absolute disbelief after he announced his farewell as a skipper from the longest format of the game.
When Virat took over as Test captain, India winning a test overseas was an achievement, now if India lose an overseas test series it is an upset.
