“Deserves to be no. 1 in the world,” Twitter hails Suryakumar Yadav after he becomes second ranked T20I batsman in the world

The first position in ICC T20I batsmen's rankings is currently occupied by the Pakistan captain Babar Azam

After a sparkling knock of 76 in yesterday’s T20 international against West Indies in St Kitts, the Indian batsman Suryakumar Yadav has jumped a couple of places in the ICC T20I batsmen’s rankings and is now positioned at no. 2 behind the Pakistan captain Babar Azam.

Earlier, it was the Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan who was positioned at no. 2, but now Suryakumar Yadav has surpassed him and he is only two rating points behind Babar Azam as well.

With Suryakumar jumping up to the no. 2 position, not only Rizwan has slipped down to no. 3, the South African batsman Aiden Markram has also slipped down by a position and he is now the fourth-ranked T20I batsman in the world.

Suryakumar Yadav is the only Indian batsman in the top 10 T20I batsmen’s rankings. The second highest position occupied by an Indian batsman in the rankings is no. 16 and that has been occupied by the Indian captain Rohit Sharma himself.

Another Indian batsman in the top 20 of ICC rankings is Rohit Sharma’s deputy KL Rahul who is positioned right down at no. 20 and one of the reasons behind that are he has not played international cricket for a long time. Rahul was supposed to make a comeback in the ongoing series against West Indies, but couldn’t do so, as he tested positive for COVID.

The former Indian captain and arguably one of the greatest T20I batsmen ever, Virat Kohli, has further slipped in the ICC rankings again and his current position in the T20I batsmen’s rankings is no. 28.

I write a bit on cricket and I am more interested in technical and tactical side of the game, rather than bravado.
